Joining a new pride

I've had the chance to add a lot of fun things to my portfolio in the past few months, especially in the sports world. The Brazos Valley Bombers and Brazos Valley Cavalry were kind enough to bring me on board for their summer seasons, and I've had a lot of fun at the Hildebrand Equine Complex announcing for Texas A&M Equestrian.

Now, a new addition has me really excited for different reasons.

Starting next month, I'll be providing play-by-play on the videos for Lions Pride Sports, the newest professional wrestling promotion in Texas and one serving the Brazos Valley.

No form of entertainment is for everyone. I don't gravitate toward superhero movies or reality TV or westerns. But for whatever reason, pro wrestling found a place in my life in the late 1990s. It's the reason I found an amazing group of friends I spent four years with in college. It's brought me closer to many people in the years since. Oh, and at its best, it's a compelling physical drama with exceptional athleticism and fun story-telling.

What I had the chance to see in October at the first Lions Pride show fit into that. I think the hundreds of people who attended at Smitty K's in College Station would agree, and hopefully will come back to future shows. The next outings come Friday, January 12 at the Caldwell Civic Center and Sunday, January 14 at Hurricane Harry's in College Station.

My broadcast partner will be one of my great friends who also has been a long-time fan, Adam Drake. Adam spent many years on the radio in and outside the Brazos Valley, and I know he's as excited as I am about adding this to his broadcasting resume. If you're a person with an on-air background and you're a wrestling fan, you've probably dreamed of doing what Adam and I have the chance to do.

Adam and I want to thank Houston Carson with Lions Pride for giving us the opportunity. Houston had a great in-ring wrestling career that spanned so many promotions in Texas. Now, he's putting his power and energy behind this promotion and looking to make it one of the best in the state and country. We hope we can add a bit to the product that will be seen and relived after the shows are done.

Names you're heard and names you'll hear a lot more will hit Lions Pride's ring in the coming months. We hope you'll come to the very-affordable shows across the area to see the efforts these performers put in, and then check out the videos afterwards to hear Adam and me add a little to their stories.
